We'd much prefer if this GPU was called the RTX 2060M instead, but enough on that.įor benchmarking the RTX 2060 we’ve used the new Asus ROG Strix Scar II GL504GV. Turing laptop GPUs are also more aggressively underclocked relative to the desktop cards than Pascal ever was, so we're not expecting to see the same margins or performance improvements as on the desktop. The laptop variant is clocked at just 960 MHz with a boost of 1200 MHz - the boost clock is lower than the desktop's base clock - Nvidia was forced to do this to shave the TDP down from 160W, to 80-90W which is more suitable for laptop designs.Įvidently, you won’t get desktop RTX 2060 performance from the laptop variant, despite both having the same name. The desktop card has a base clock of 1365 MHz and a boost of 1680 MHz, with GPU Boost taking the GPU even higher.

However the laptop RTX 2060 isn’t clocked anywhere near what the desktop card can achieve. It’s still built on TSMC’s 12nm process, too. It also has the same memory configuration: 6GB of GDDR6 at 14 Gbps on a 192-bit bus for 336 GB/s of bandwidth. That means you get 1920 CUDA cores, 240 Tensor cores and 30 RT cores. The RTX 2060 GPU used in laptops uses the same TU106 GPU as the desktop card, with the same core configuration. Just know that in this generation, the RTX GPUs are named the same but performance will be slower than their desktop counterparts. That’s still the case with the RTX 2060, but we're not harping on about this issue. We recently reviewed the RTX 2070 Max-Q and spent some time talking about how Nvidia’s naming scheme for their laptop GPUs can be very misleading for prospective buyers.
NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 2060. UPDATE
As always, we'll be roaming around the event to bring you the latest news, and we'll update as more information becomes available.Considering the popularity and widespread use of the GeForce GTX 1060 in gaming laptops, the new RTX 2060 is set to be one of the key offerings in Nvidia’s latest lineup.

Andreas Schilling seems to think that Nvidia will announce the graphics card in the second week of January which coincides with CES. The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) will be held on Januand would be the perfect venue for Nvidia to launch the GeForce RTX 2060. The GeForce RTX 2060 was seemingly benchmarked with the tool on the High Quality preset at 3840 x 2160. In the last couple of months, we've seen results from the Final Fantasy XV benchmark for unannounced graphics cards from both Nvidia and AMD. Just How Fast Is The Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060? It also has the USB Type-C connector for Nvidia VirtualLink like its RTX brethren. The leaked image of the alleged GeForce RTX 2060 shows the graphics card with an HDMI port and three DisplayPort outputs, just like the GeForce GTX 1060. The 8-pin PCIe power connector on the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 suggests that this model probably comes with a hefty factory overclock out of the box.

It's possible that Nvidia will replicate the GTX 1060's 120W TDP (thermal design power) and 6-pin PCIe power connector on its forthcoming GeForce RTX 2060. The Gigabyte model features a dual-slot design and a twin-fan cooling solution. VideoCardz got its hands on a couple of rendered images of what is allegedly Gigabyte's upcoming GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card. It also purportedly sports 6GB of GDDR6 memory. The mid-range GeForce RTX 2060 could feature a 1,365MHz base clock and 1,680MHz boost clock. As a result, it looks like the GeForce RTX 2060 comes with 1,920 CUDA cores, 240 Tensor cores for AI, and 30 RT cores for ray tracing. Each Streaming Multiprocessor on the Turing silicon houses up to 64 CUDA cores, eight Tensor cores, and one RT core. A recent Geekbench leak listed the GeForce RTX 2060 with 30 Streaming Multiprocessors (SMs). Being part of the Turing family, the GeForce RTX 2060 reportedly features the TU106 silicon, which is the same as the GeForce RTX 2070.
